Gold Medal – Sherwood Park Saints at Glenlake Hawks BC 2 Green

The Saints score on their second shot of the game less than one minute into the first period.

The Saints get another quick goal to go up 2-0.

The Saints score again to take a 3-0 lead with 14:47 left to play in the period.

An injury to an Eagles player causes the first period to end with 2:09 left.

The Saints were outshooting the Eagles 13-6 at that time.

Game called off after injury, so Saints win gold medal.

Glenlake Eagles BC 2 Green at Sherwood Park 703 – Saints

The Saints start the game with a shorter bench due to suspensions from last game.

A fairly even first period saw the Saints out shoot the Eagles 8-6 and the score remained tied at 0.

An early power play for the Eagles seemed to give them some momentum and they hit the core board first. The Eagles capitalize on a giveaway in the Saints end to go up 2-0.

A 2 on 1 then gives the Eagles a 3-0 lead. A power play goal extends the lead to 4-0. A penalty shot gives the Eagles a 5-0 lead.

The Saints immediately respond to make it 5-1. Shots even at 10 in the second, but the Eagles hold a 5-1 lead after the second period.

The Saints looked a little tired in that period. The Saints come out strong on the third out shooting the Eagles 3-0 in the first minute and 14 seconds.

Of note, our goalie Carsten Scheuer was playing out this game dues to a lack of players.

A penalty shot for Emerson Fray is stopped and the score remains 5-1.

The Eagles score right after to make it 6-1. The Saints outshoot the Eagles 33-32, but fall 6-1.

MVP for the Saints is Dominic Amyotte-Lorenson.

Northwest Warriors BC 2 at Sherwood Park 703 – Saints

A slow start spotted the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

The Saints did control the rest of the period. The Warriors out shot the Saints 8-6 and did have the more dangerous chances though. 1- 0 Warriors at the end of the first period.

The Saints continue to control play early and it results in a rip on goal by Bryson Oleksyn to tie the game at 1. The Saints then capitalize on a power play to take a 2 -1 lead. The Saints take advantage of another power play to go up 3-1. The Saints are out shooting the Warriors 8-2 halfway through the second period.

The Saints score on their next shot to go up 4-1. The Saints then again score on their next shot to go up 5-1. The Warriors add to their total scoring a rebound goal to close it to 5-2.

Emerson Fray then scores on a breakaway to increase the lead to 6-2.

The Saints showed some strong penalty killing taking care of three power plays by the Warriors in the period.

Some late rough stuff leads to a referee scrum in the corner to figure it out. This leads to two players from each team being kicked out of the game. The end result is a two-minute power play for the Saints.

The Saints outshoot the Warriors 13 -11 in the period and take a 6-2 lead into the third period.

The Saints continue the pressure early on the third out shooting the Warriors 5-0 in the first three minutes. Another Saints player is kicked out with 12:14 left in the third period. This results in seven penalty minutes on the board. The penalty parade continues as the Saints get another eight-minute penalty to allow a lengthy five-on-three for the Warriors.

The Warriors score early on the five-on-three to cut the lead to 6-3.

The Warriors score again on the five-on-three to cut the lead to 6-4. A late goal by the Saints makes it 7-4.

Shots in the third were 11-11.

The final score 7- 4 for the Saints secures a spot in the gold medal final tomorrow.

MVP for the Saints is Carsten Scheuer.

 

A skills competition was held after the game featuring all of the teams in the tournament.

Fastest Skater – Ilya G – 14.42

Shooting Accuracy – Bryson O. – 4 in 6 shots

Hardest Shot –  Brenden B. – 140 km/hr

Fastest Goalie – Carsten S. – 17.73

Saints win the above categories and win the skills competition.  A dominating performance by the Saints players.

Sherwood Park 703 – Saints at Raiders Hockey Club BC 2 Black

A mostly even first period of play saw the Raiders out shoot the Saints 8-7. This was mainly due to power play opportunities.

The Saints led 1-0 after one period of play.

Saints get an early power play opportunity. The Saints take advantage with a goal from Easton Roy. The Saints went up 3-0 with 12:11 left in the second period. The Raiders respond with a goal of their own to cut into the lead.

Too many Saints penalties led to the Raiders out shooting the Saints 18-7 in the second, but the Saints hold a 4-2 lead after two.

A strong period by Saints goaltender Ben Kraiger kept frustrating the Raider players. Bad ice conditions in the third period led to sloppy play by both teams. Dominic Amyotte-Lorenson drives to the net and extends the Saints lead to 5-2.

Late penalty trouble give the Raiders a late goal. The Raiders out shoot the Saints 8-3 in the period and 34-17 overall. The Saints win 5-3.

MVP for the Saints was Bryson Oleksyn.
